Chinese Lascar at the National Maritime Museum

We’ll be in Greenwich developing the role of a Chinese lascar (sailor) for their new gallery about the East India Co.

We are delighted to announce the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, has awarded a contract to Yellow Earth to develop an actor interpreter role of a Chinese lascar (sailor) for their new gallery about the British East India Company. This is probably the first time a Chinese character will be permanently represented in this way in a UK national museum.

The ‘lascar’ is to be introduced on a regular basis and will be an important part of bringing the hidden British Chinese histories into a mainstream programme. We shall be developing the role, researching and writing the brief and training and providing actor interpreters on a weekly basis to the Museum.
